{"id":283,"date":"2018-08-26T19:46:54","date_gmt":"2018-08-27T02:46:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lighthacker.org\/?page_id=283"},"modified":"2018-08-26T19:46:54","modified_gmt":"2018-08-27T02:46:54","slug":"brewing-stuff","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.lighthacker.org\/?page_id=283","title":{"rendered":"Brewing Stuff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"western\">Standard Mead Recipe for 1 Gallon<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p class=\"western\">3 LB Honey<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"western\">Add to \u00bd Gallon of water in a saucepan.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"western\">Heat on low till foam forms on the top.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"western\">Skim the foam off (Needed if raw unfiltered honey)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"western\">If adding a fruit flavor do it now: anywhere from \u00bc to 1 cup depending on the strength.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"western\">Cool down to room temperature put aside \u00bc to add the yeast into and mix well.<br \/>\nI recommend 10 g Epernay II, Wine Yeast found at most homebrew suppliers.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"western\">Prepare a 1-gallon bottle that can take a fermentation lock by using a mild bleach solution to sterilize it. Flush with water to remove the bleach residue.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"western\">Pour in the honey solution, add the yeast and enough water to complete the gallon of water.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"western\">Place a fermentation lock on the bottle and place in a cool dark place.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"western\">Check for bubbling in the fermentation lock to see it is active.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"western\">Check the water in the lock and keep it filled at the normal level, if it drys out you can contaminate your Mead and spoil it.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"western\">Check back weekly for activity. If it stops bubbling gently swirl the bottle around to mix up the yeast.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"western\">Once it is done let it sit for about 30 days to let the dead yeast settle to the bottom.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"western\">You can fill up to 6 16oz bottles from this using a simple siphon.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Standard Mead Recipe for 1 Gallon 3 LB Honey Add to \u00bd Gallon of water in a saucepan.
